Campaign Update:
Final Call to Action! (11/02/09)

Foster's Daily Democrat Endorses Soldati for Mayor of Somersworth

"Lincoln Soldati is our choice for mayor of Somersworth and we hope voters of the Hilltop City will share our view.

Soldati knows Somersworth and he knows people. A practicing attorney and formerly the Strafford County Attorney, the county's top legal official, Soldati knows the concerns of people and will work with the Somersworth City Council to address the interests of those people. He will work to bring the people of Somersworth and their elected representatives closer. Soldati is not someone of a closed mind. He knows it takes more than one person to ensure sound policy."

ABOUT MAYOR SOLDATI
With over 30 years experience as an attorney, teacher, public speaker, and community activist in the State of New Hampshire, Lincoln Soldati is your candidate.

Born in Rochester, he graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School, the University of Notre Dame and Franklin Pierce Law Center. Soldati ran for Strafford County Attorney in 1982 and was elected nine times over the course of 18 years.

In 1983, he moved to Somersworth, the home of the Soldati family since the early 20th century. He has been active in the Somersworth community - eight years on the Somersworth School Board (serving as chair in his final year) and more recently, was elected to the Somersworth Charter Commission serving as Secretary, and also serves on the Cable Contract Renewal Committee.

In his bid for mayor, Soldati is focused on promoting civil discourse and encouraging citizen involvement.

“Over ten years ago, citizens came together to talk about 'The City We Want.' The goals they laid out then are just as relevant today:

  • a revitalized downtown that spotlights our riverfront,

  • educational and employment opportunities for all,

  • balancing business development with protecting our greenspace.
"It all adds up to a sustainable
      Somersworth!

Fosters: Let the people of Somersworth decide the issue of a tax cap

Wednesday, August 19, 2009

"Soldati's position on the tax cap is that the people should have an opportunity to vote on the restriction. Soldati's view is a populist one: Let the people decide. While he has stayed clear of taking a "yes" or "no" stance on the tax cap, he remains firm in allowing the people to make the call." Read full story.

Fosters: Soldati to run for Somersworth Mayor

By Leslie Modica
Wednesday, July 15, 2009

When Lincoln Soldati watched his son, Emmett, found the Save Hilltop Coalition and make his mark on local government last summer, he said he was inspired to take another look at his own involvement in city government.

On Tuesday he announced he will try to take that involvement to the top in a bid for mayor during the November elections. Read full story.

Hey Everyone!

I hope you are as excited as we are about the big day! Polls open in less than 32 hours!!

To make it a truly memorable election day, we are looking for one final boost. You've all been so supportive, we were just hoping you might be able to help us out on Election Day!

As you know, polls are open from 7AM to 7PM on Tuesday (Nov 3rd). We'd really like to have all 'bases' covered during peak times. Please let us know if you can spend a couple hours standing by polling stations to engage with the public, wave signs, and pass out flyers.

We've got some flyers and signs left - but please feel free to take your lawn sign with you and wave it high! Also, it'd be great if you wanted to make your own personalized banners - we'd love to see some homemade "Honk for Soldati!" signs out there!

Here are the 5 polling stations:

Ward One: City Hall, One Government Way
Ward Two: Summersworth Historical Society, 157 Main Street
Ward Three: Flanagan Community Center, Bartlett Avenue
Ward Four: Charpentier Apartments, 28 Franklin Street
Ward Five: Romeo J. Messier Building, 218 Main Street

We'd also like to have major intersections covered - High St by Wal-Mart, Rt 108 and West High, etc. If you know you can spare a couple hours, please email us back and we'll let you know where you're needed most.

Grab you jackets, lawn chairs, signs, neighbors, and friends and we'll see you at the polls!

Hey Everyone!

We've reached the final stretch. We want to thank all of you for your continued support - with the help you've all provided it looks like it will be a very active election. Thanks to those who have put up signs, handed out flyers, donated funds, held gatherings and again thanks to Neil Larson for making our awesome website!

Candidates Forum:
The Candidates Forum went well. There was a great turnout and we've heard that they will run the Forum over and over on Channel 22 so hopefully a lot more will see it. Mary Pat Rowland, an editor from Fosters Daily Democrat, was the moderator. The City Council candidates started the evening off - everyone gave opening and closing remarks and each answered four questions. The same format was used for the Mayoral race. Unfortunately, Arvid Wiggin was ill but Mayor Micucci was present and Lincoln did a great job.

5 Days Left!!!
But the work hasn't ended yet! We'd love for one last big campaign push before election day. If you still have a lawn sign that you haven't put up - set it up now! We've got a couple signs left that we'd love to get up by this weekend - let us know if someone would like one!

We appreciate the work you all are doing to continue outreach in your own communities - feel free to refer friends to the website for more information: http://www.soldatiformayor.com

Polling Promotions
One big way you can still show your support is to help us out on Election Day (that's next TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3 - POLLS OPEN 7AM-7PM!). Our goal is to have supporters communicating with citizens at all 5 polling stations (as well as other major intersections, if possible). Please let us know if you and others could donate a couple hours on Tuesday - we'll get back to you with locations and give you lots of flyers to hand out and signs to hold! This is also a great way for teenagers and students under 18 to get active!

Let's make it happen!

CAMPAIGN IS HEATING UP
We’re seeing more and more signs – the campaigns are getting active. We can’t let up for a minute – we can’t assume who will win. We need your help! Thanks for all your efforts!

MEDIA
The Wire just interviewed Lincoln for an upcoming feature the paper is doing covering Seacoast elections. We think the Somersworth coverage is in the week of October 21.

CANDIDATES FORUM
Looking forward to this forum run by the Chamber of Commerce and moderated by an editor from Fosters Daily Democrat on Thursday October 22 at 6:30pm at City Hall. If you can’t make it to the forum, it will be broadcast live on Channel 22.

NEW FLIERS
Those cool fliers Emmett designed have run out (be sure to save yours for posterity!) and Lincoln has created a new one which includes the Ten Reasons he’s running for Mayor. Let us know if you’d like some fliers.

WEBSITE
Check out those Ten Reasons at www.soldatiformayor.com

CANVASSING
Lincoln has been meeting voters as he’s gone door to door in several wards and plans on continuing right up until election day.

SIGNS
We’ve been putting up more and more around town – let us know if you’d like one or have a friend/family who’d like to put one up.

BUSINESS WALK
Lincoln's had some excellent responses as he visited local businesses - including the downtown plaza, Main Street, and High Street. Here's what he had to say about:

“One guy said he'd been in business for nine years and I was the first mayoral candidate to come in his store so he is definitely voting for me. ”

DAY OF – WORKING THE POLLS
It’s our hope to have workers at all the polls which are open 7am-7pm. Let us know if you’d like to work a shift and hold a sign! Even if you can only spare an hour, that would be much appreciated!

ABSENTEE BALLOTS
Just got this from the City: Absentee ballots for the November 3, 2009 Municipal Election are available in the Office of the City Clerk. Any person who will be absent from the City on the date of the election or who is physically disabled or unable to come to the polls because of a religious observance or an employment obligation, may vote by absentee ballot. Absentee ballots will be given to and received from the person applying for them and who meets one of the above criteria. The Office of the City Clerk is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (open until 6 p.m. on Wednesdays). Any questions or concerns regarding absentee ballots should be directed to the Office of the City Clerk at 692-9511.

Just got this from the City: Sample ballots are available at the City Clerk's Office. They can also be viewed on our website, www.somersworth.com in the news section as well as the City Clerk's section. Hello Somersworth!

With little more than a month before Election Day, we've been running the campaign at full tilt. Lincoln's been keeping busy with canvassing, visiting local businesses, and maintaining a presence at council and other city related meetings. We'd love to share with you two amazing bits of information that we know will get you excited to take part in the delights of political action!

REGISTRATION CLOSES
We assume you've heard the news - as of last week the registration for the November 3rd election is closed for all city council and school board positions. Not only that, but Lincoln managed to register on the first day by handing in 50 signed and notarized signatures from citizens from all over Somersworth. In case you missed it, here's the link to fosters: Somersworth Slate Set

NEW WEBSITE
We’re thrilled to announce that Lincoln’s campaign website is up and running. Check it out at www.soldatiformayor.com (pretty good, huh?). Make sure to pass on the URL to everyone you know! We've even made it easier to donate using our online system!

The website is entirely thanks to Neil Larson, a multi-talented Somersworth musician/designer. You can find out all about Neil's work at his website: www.nglmedia.com

Note: If You Have a Lawn Sign Already, Please Put it Up by October 1st!

How You Can Help:
In these remaining weeks, we’ve got so many things to do. Lincoln has been going door to door, meeting with residents, listening to their concerns, and leaving lots of flyers. We are interested in any and all ideas for house parties, locations for lawn signs, important events to attend, etc. Don't forget to send us emails of other residents you think should be on this email list!

Hello Everyone!

Although I’m back in Toronto, I’ve been staying in touch with Somersworth and the campaign. I'd like to share with you some highlights/updates about the campaign trail:

MEETING BUSINESS LEADERS

Lincoln was the guest speaker Tuesday morning at the Somersworth Rotary, Emceed by Maureen Jackman and introduced by Monica Zulauf. After Lincoln’s talk and the Q+A, one Rotarian commented, “that was the first time a politician actually answered a question!” Lincoln is planning to meet other business owners and employees as he walks in the coming months.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

According to Somersworth's website, the filing period for the November 3, 2009 Municipal Election will open on (Tuesday) September 15, 2009 and close on (Thursday) September 24, 2009 - we've been told by the city clerk that it actually opens on the 14th - but either way the campaign will be official very soon. As you may know, you can register either by paying $50 or by submitting 50 notarized signatures. I've just learned that Lincoln now has ALL 50 SIGNATURES and plans on being at city hall on the first day of registration with what might be the first time someone has used the petition for candidacy in Somersworth (or at least in a long while)!

CAMPAIGN SIGNS AND FLIERS

No doubt you’ve started to see Soldati for Mayor signs up around town. Do let us know if you’d like one for your property and if you have family and friends (especially with visible property) who would like one. We continue to deliver these each week and we'll be happy to deliver them to you. We have fliers – again, let us know if you’d like some to hand out to your friends and neighbors.

CANVASSING

As mentioned above, Lincoln has begun canvassing. Not only has this helped with signatures, but it has also allowed him to speak with and better know the entire Somersworth community by listening to residents' concerns. We are doing our best to cover wards and neighborhoods evenly - so be on the look out if he's in your community! We've been thrilled by the response we're getting to Lincoln's campaign - so many people are engergized by his candidacy and the possibilities for positive change in our city.

By the way, thanks to all those who have signed the petition to put Lincoln's name on the ballot!

FUNDRAISING

Thanks so much for your donations; they really help in defraying the costs of the campaign. If you want to make a donation, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us! We are in the process of setting up a website where you will hopefully be able to donate easily online. But as always, you can make checks out to "Soldati for Mayor".

Thanks for staying tuned and we'll make sure to make this yet another exciting election year!

Hello Everyone,

I hope you all have been enjoying your summer! I just had a few exciting updates about Lincoln's campaign that I wanted to share with you all.

First of all - our lawn signs are in! This week we will be delivering them to anyone who might be interested. Please email us if you'd like one on your lawn! Lincoln was also mentioned in the news after the most recent City Council meeting. You can find an editorial on the meeting here: http://fosters.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090819/GJOPINION_01/708199996/-1/fosnews1407

As summer is winding down, the election is just starting to heat up. Lincoln is beginning to canvas the neighbordhoods, speaking with residents and business owners to hear about their concerns. We are doing our best to reach the entire Somersworth community. For those of you that are parents with kids in college, make sure to get them to register to vote and request an absentee ballot (this can be done over the phone, or by mailing in a small form to city hall). Their number is 603-692-9511.

As a reminder, we still need donations to keep going. Even the smallest amount allows us to reach a couple more voters - which is what city elections often come down to.

Lastly, we are still hoping to attend some house gatherings in September or October, so please notify us if you are interested (or if you know someone that is).

Hope to hear from you soon!

Hello Everyone!

Thanks for all who came out last night - and thanks to Jennifer for holding such a wonderful party.

I'm sure a lot of you got the campaigning bug, so I'm just following up about last night and how you can get involved/help out.

First thing is that we'd love to expand this email list! If all of you could send along a handful of emails (or just one, or your whole database!) of Somersworth residents that would like to stay informed about Lincoln's campaign and the election, that would be amazing.

Also, feel free to contact this email with any questions you might have. A couple residents have already offered to slip some of our handbill/fliers under the doors of houses on their street - so let us know if you want more handbills and I'll swing them by whenever you're free!

Many of you have also requested lawn signs. They are going to be ordered soon and we will start bring them out as soon as we get them. Let me know if you'd like one on your lawn and I'll put you on the list.

Although this is a 'small' election, we do have expenses - flyers/posters/lawnsigns, print/radio ads, events, etc. Any donation will go a long way in getting the votes we need to get Lincoln elected. It doesn't have to be much, but many households donate around $25. Just let me know and I can swing by to pick up the donation at your convenience.

You can make checks payable to "Soldati for Mayor."

If you are free on November 3rd, we'd love it if you could lend a few hours to promote Lincoln outside one of the polling stations. We can give more information on where and when if you let us know.

Finally, a big part of this campaign is getting to know all of Somersworth. House parties and local Ward events really help connect Lincoln to the entire voting public. If you know a lot of residents from Wards other than Ward 1, we'd love to get in touch with them to set up an event. (Or if you've got nothing else to do on a Monday night, call up your friends, get out the blender, and we'd love to stop by for a Margartia Monday!)

Again, I really want to thank all of you for your continued support - we've got a long and exciting campaign trail ahead of us and you'll probably be hearing a lot from me these coming months, so it's nice to know help is close at hand.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you,

-Emmett Soldati
